Joseph A. Aquino has more than 25 years of fashion retail real estate, commercial showroom & office and investment sales experience. He specializes in luxury to fast fashion retailers, restaurants along with owner representation in major markets around the world, from New York to Los Angeles, from London to Hong Kong.
Mr. Aquino is the head of the SBS Group of Worldwide Fashion Brokers, an organization of top real estate professionals based throughout the U.S., Europe, Asia, South America and Canada.
Based out of New York City, Mr. Aquino has consulted on high profile urban renewal projects such as The 42nd Street Development Project in Times Square, as well as retail transactions in hotels / casinos across the country. But he is especially known for his high profile signature retail leasing transactions.
On Madison Avenue, he has recently secured space for Buccellati, Paul & Shark, DeLaneau Swiss Watches, Soigne K, Aaron Basha, Judith Leiber. His latest deals in Soho, Nolita and Meatpacking have included Ivanka Trump Fine Jewelry, Erno Lazslo, Bond No. 9, Tui Lifestyle, Roundabout, Realm and Piero Guido. Also he has arranged locations for such international chains as WHO.A.U. and Uniqlo, and the expansion of Italian children’s fashion brand Monnalisa into Chicago and Beverly Hills.
Other tenants that Mr. Aquino has worked with have included Jimmy Choo, Kusmi Tea, Tous, Fogal, Caché, Ports 1961, Sermoneta, Fresh, Papyrus, Barneys Co-op, Florsheim, Lenscrafters, Shoe Woo by Nine West, Giggle, G-Star, Dunderdon and Penhaligon’s. He has also arranged numerous restaurant transactions for such well known establishments as Morton’s Steakhouse, Park Avenue Café (Stillman Group), Daniel Boulud, Café Concepts and City Crab.
Mr. Aquino has represented an impressive list of landlords, including Blackrock, Extell Development Company, Spitzer Enterprises, Hartz Mountain, Stahl Properties, Helmsley Organization, Coca Cola, Trump Organization, Tishman Speyer, Peninsula Hotels, Forest City Ratner, General Investment & Development, Felissimo, Tahl Properties, Kensico Properties, Estate of Sol Goldman, Rosewood Hotels & Resorts, Taubman, Westfield, Onassis Foundation and Minskoff Organization.
In addition to his leasing and sales transactions, Mr. Aquino has been instrumental in numerous dispositions, most recently Buccellati at 46 East 57th Street, Alaska House at 109 Mercer Street, and Bond No. 9 at 680 Madison Avenue. He has also arranged showroom & office space for Bond No. 9, Ralph Lauren Cancer Center, Internal Revenue Service and the Veterans Administration. Investment sales this year have already included the Felissimo townhouse at 10 West 56th Street and a multi-level retail condo at 1086 Madison Avenue and another commercial townhouse located at 927 Madison Avenue.
Prior to joining Douglas Elliman Real Estate in 2005, he was a Managing Director at Garrick-Aug Worldwide, one of the City’s most venerable former retail real estate firms. His real estate career began in investment sales, where he brokered transactions for the sale of a major shopping mall, apartment buildings, industrial facilities and land for residential development.
Throughout a long and distinguished career, he has received many industry awards, including Prudential Douglas Elliman’s coveted Platinum Chairman Circle Award every year since joining the firm in 2005. In 2004, he was honored with the prestigious Emma Lazarus Award by the Real Estate Board of New York (REBNY), of which he is a long-standing member.
